In the longer term, however, we can — and should — aspire to something more. Writing may evolve beyond text alone into **richer forms of knowledge representation**. These may integrate structural, semantic, or logical elements — blending prose with machine-readable meaning. Future systems could merge formal languages, logic-based affordances, and visualizations that allow writers to manipulate and explore complex ideas collaboratively and in real time.
But that future is still being built. For now, we must work well with text — particularly in this new age of AI — and that means using Markdown intelligently, and exploring thoughtful extensions of it.
The question remains however, do we limit ourselves in anyway by choosing to lean into the use of markdown? Do we loose something?
